What the cookie banner actually controls

The banner at the foot of each page sets a single preference record, stored in your browser's local storage under the name cookie_consent. It holds five yes-or-no values (analytics, advertising storage, advertising user data, advertising personalisation and personalisation) and nothing else. It does not contain your name, your address or anything you typed into the contact form. If you clear your browser storage, the record disappears and the banner simply appears again on your next visit.

Essential storage

Two categories are marked as always active: functionality storage and security storage. On this site they cover very little: remembering that you have already answered the banner, and keeping the contact form from being submitted twice when a slow connection makes the button feel unresponsive. We do not use essential storage to recognise you between visits or to build a picture of the pages you read.

Analytics and advertising categories

• Analytics storage, if you allow it, would let us see in aggregate which pages are read, for example whether people who open the wall review page also look at the layout plan, so we can decide which explanations need more work.
• Advertising storage and the two related advertising signals exist so that, if we ever measure a search advertisement for our stone walkthrough, the measurement respects your choice. They stay off unless you switch them on.
• Personalisation storage would remember small display choices. We do not currently rely on it for anything you would notice.

Third parties

Where an analytics or advertising tool is connected, the provider receives only the categories you have allowed, through Google's consent mode signals sent from the banner. We do not sell cookie data, and we do not pass it to stone suppliers, quarries or the contractors who sometimes build from our drawings.

If you decline everything

Declining all optional categories changes nothing about how the site works. Every service page, the price for each visit and the contact form remain fully available, and an enquiry about a bulging wall or a rockery plan is handled in exactly the same way whether or not you accepted cookies.

How long choices last

Your preference record stays in your browser until you change it or clear site data. Any analytics data that a connected provider holds is kept for the shortest period that provider allows, and we review that setting at least once a year, usually in the quiet weeks of midwinter when we also update the rest of the site.

Shared devices

If you use a shared computer at home or in an office, the preference record belongs to that browser, not to you. Someone else using the same browser will see the choice you made, and clearing site data resets it for everyone using that device.
